The Gloriana Venetian Ceruse Makeup is inspired by The Virgin Queen Elizabeth I. Also known as “blanc de ceruse de Venise” or “Spirits of Saturn” and was a 16th-century cosmetic used as a skin whitener. A 1688 record detailed a recipe, which described the cosmetics as a mixture of water, vinegar, and lead and was later found out to be extremely toxic. The makeup would prove to be very deadly. The Virgin Queen would paint her face with this blend which grew thicker as she aged and poisoned her slowly over time and ate away at her skin. Queen Elizabeth I died on March 24 1603 age 69 in Richmond Palace with a full inch of makeup on her face.
